Villa Las Tronas: A Former Royal Residence in Alghero
Set on its own small headland right off Alghero, this late-19th-century villa was once a summer residence of the Italian royal family – today a hotel with sea views on three sides.
History
The villa was built in the late 19th century and served, among others, King Umberto I as a residence. Its castle-like façade and exposed position on the headland make it recognizable from a distance.
Location
The villa is only about a ten-minute walk from Alghero's historic centre, yet its own headland gives it a noticeably secluded feel away from the bustle of the old town.
Good to know: its proximity to the centre of Alghero makes the Villa Las Tronas a good base for exploring the Catalan-influenced old town, the cliffs of Capo Caccia, and the Grotte di Nettuno without needing a rental car.
