Camping Packing List for the Sardinian Climate

Sardinia's climate brings a few quirks often missing from a generic camping packing list โ€“ above all wind, mosquitoes, and intense sun.

Wind: Mistral and Scirocco

Especially in the north of the island, strong wind blows regularly. Sturdy metal tent pegs instead of plastic and a low-profile tent are a clear advantage at wind-exposed coastal sites.

Mosquitoes

Near lagoons and river mouths (e.g. near San Teodoro or Cabras), mosquitoes can become annoying in the evening. A mosquito net for the tent and an effective repellent belong on every packing list.

Practical tip: a sun sail or an extra tarp for shade over the pitch is especially worthwhile at sites without tree cover โ€“ the midday sun in July/August is intense in Sardinia.
A campsite with trees is often worth more in the Sardinian high summer than one right on the water.
