Cala Mariolu: The Cove With the White Pebbles
Round, pale white pebbles instead of sand, and a gradient from turquoise to deep blue, make Cala Mariolu one of the most striking coves in the Golfo di Orosei.
Reachable only by boat or on foot
Cala Mariolu sits on the steep coastline of the Golfo di Orosei and has no road access. Most visitors arrive by boat tour from Cala Gonone or Santa Maria Navarrese. Alternatively, a demanding hiking trail leads there via the Selvaggio Blu route or from Golgo – suitable only for sure-footed, well-prepared hikers.
What makes the cove special
The small, smooth white pebbles give the water an especially bright, almost white tint in the shallows, shifting outward into vivid turquoise and blue. Shade is scarce – bring sun protection and plenty of water.
Swimming & snorkelling
The clear water is great for snorkelling, especially around the rocks at the edges of the cove. Currents and swell can be stronger than at more sheltered beaches, depending on conditions.
