Spiaggia della Pelosa: The Dream Beach Near Stintino
Caribbean-looking turquoise water, fine white sand, and the striking watchtower standing in the water: the Pelosa is considered by many to be Sardinia's most beautiful beach – and it's popular accordingly.
Location & getting there
The Pelosa lies at Sardinia's northwesternmost tip, right by Stintino, facing the island of Asinara. It's about a 45-minute drive from Sassari, or roughly an hour from Alghero. In high season the access road to Stintino is often congested – if you're flexible, arriving outside peak times makes for a much more relaxed trip.
Access rules
Access has been regulated for a few years now to protect the fine sand: a limited ticket/reservation system in high season, bringing your own towel instead of a beach mat is recommended (mats with rough undersides are partly banned), and shoes must be removed before stepping onto the sand. The exact rules change from time to time – best to check online shortly before your trip.
What makes the beach special
The water stays knee-deep even several hundred metres from shore – ideal for families with small children. The view of the Torre della Pelosa, a 16th-century Spanish watchtower standing directly in the water, plus the offshore Isola Piana and Asinara, makes the setting one of a kind.
Nearby
Stintino itself is a small, worthwhile fishing village with a good selection of restaurants. If you want to see more beaches in the region, you'll find quieter coves nearby, away from the Pelosa.
